Broun Suga Co. is an independent perfume house creating handcrafted fragrance in small batches in Oakland, California.
And when we say independent, we mean it.
We're a team of about one-and-a-half people: one perfumer doing a little bit of everything, with some much-appreciated part-time help along the way.
There is no corporate fragrance team, massive production line, or fulfillment center behind Broun Suga Co. From developing the fragrances to blending, bottling, labeling, packing orders, and answering emails, most of what happens here is handled by the same very small team.
Meet the Perfumer
At the center of Broun Suga Co. is perfumer Jarekhye Covarrubias, whose work in independent fragrance spans more than a decade.
Before Broun Suga Co., Jarekhye created fragrances through Haught Parfums and Ganache Parfums, developing a body of work particularly known for gourmand fragrance.
Broun Suga Co. is its own chapter—built on years of creating, experimenting, learning, and an enduring fascination with the way scent connects us to memory.
Why Gourmand?
We love fragrance that makes you feel something.
Desserts, café culture, fruit, sugar, cozy rituals, and familiar tastes often become the starting point for what we create. But gourmand fragrance, to us, is about much more than simply smelling like something delicious.
It's about memory, texture, comfort, pleasure, and emotion.
A spoonful of mango sticky rice. Warm vanilla lingering in the air. Strawberry preserves. Saltwater taffy after a day near the ocean. Something baking in the kitchen. Fruit dripping down your hand in the middle of summer.
These seemingly small moments can stay with us for years.
We take those familiar experiences and reinterpret them through fragrance—sometimes literally and sometimes in ways you might not expect. Sweetness can meet woods, florals, musk, salt, citrus, greenery, or something completely surprising.
The goal isn't simply to make something that smells good.
It's to make something you want to remember.

Every Broun Suga Co. fragrance is blended and prepared in intentionally small batches in Oakland, California.
Working on this scale keeps us close to everything we make. It gives us the freedom to experiment, follow unusual ideas, make adjustments, and create fragrance on our own terms instead of designing by committee.
Being this small sometimes means we move a little differently than the big guys.
But it also means the person who created your fragrance is never very far removed from the bottle that arrives at your door.
What We Believe
Broun Suga Co. celebrates Black creativity, individuality, comfort, and pleasure through fragrance.
We believe sweetness can be sophisticated. Comfort can be luxurious. Nostalgia can be sexy. And perfume can be playful without being disposable.
Our fragrances can be comforting, strange, sexy, nostalgic, loud, quiet, delicious—or several of those things at once.
We don't believe fragrance needs to fit neatly into a box.
And neither do the people who wear it.
We're small. We're independent. We're handmade in Oakland.
And we're probably somewhere right now making something that smells ridiculously good.
